The European Economic Area (EEA) is an agreement between the European Union (EU) and three of its Member States (Iceland'>Iceland, Liechtenstein'>Liechtenstein, and Norway'>Norway) that allows for the free movement of goods, services, capital, and people between the EU and the three countries. The EEA was established in 1994 and is based on the principles of the EU’s single market.

The EEA Agreement provides for the free movement of goods, services, capital, and people between the EU and the three countries. This means that goods, services, and capital can move freely between the EU and the three countries without any customs duties or other restrictions. The EEA also provides for the free movement of people, meaning that citizens of the three countries can live and work in any of the EU Member States without needing a visa or work permit.

The EEA Agreement also provides for the adoption of EU legislation in the three countries. This means that the three countries must adopt EU legislation in areas such as the environment, consumer protection, and social policy. This ensures that the same standards are applied in all four countries.

The EEA Agreement also provides for the participation of the three countries in certain EU programmes and agencies. This includes the European Environment Agency, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, and the European Aviation Safety Agency.
