Arquette was born in Chicago, Illinois, on April 8, 1968. She is the daughter of Lewis Arquette, an actor, and Brenda Denaut, an acting teacher and therapist. She has four siblings, all of whom are actors. Arquette began her career as a child actor, appearing in films such as A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and the television series Pee-wee’s Playhouse.

In the 1990s, Arquette began to take on more adult roles, appearing in films such as True Romance, Ed Wood, and Lost Highway. She received critical acclaim for her performance in the latter, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She also appeared in the Academy Award-winning film Boyhood, for which she won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress.
